You can use icing tips with no couplers just push the tip inside the bag and cut the end off allowing just the end of the tip.
Push the coupler back down through this hole until the hole lines up with the beginning of the couplers threaded lines. Screw the ring on to hold the tip in place. Just place the tip directly into the bag.
Drop the base of the coupler to the end of the decorating bag. Push the coupler up and cut the bag at the marked line. If you dont plan on changing tips you can put the tip directly in the bag but I ALWAYS use a coupler.
It is easier to grab the end of the coupler than a tip that is snug in the pastry bag. Use a pair of scissors to mark a spot on the bag about inch before the first thread on the narrow end of the coupler.
