How To Solder Tips

How to solder tips. Apply a small bead of solder to the copper part of the tip. After coating the solder tip you need to clean it. You can clean the solder tips using a wet sponge.
The tip is now tinned and ready for use. A small amount should remain on the tip giving it a shiny appearance. Tin your tip with solder before each connection to help prep the joint.
Follow the same step as per above. Remove all polishing residue from your fingers before fitting a joint. Touch the tip of the soldering iron to the wires and keep it there.
The soldering lead and the iron tip should be at an angle of 45 degrees so as the make the solder flow easily. Use the thinnest solder appropriate for your project. Grab the solder in your non-dominant hand and give it about an inch and a half.
Do not keep the soldering iron tip more than 3 seconds on the soldering joint when soldering CMOS components. If you see smoke coming from your solder turn down the heat. The soldering iron should make contact with the leg or lead of a component and the trace on the PCB.
The wires will begin to heat up. For most small pieces of tinplate on the other hand you can have a small knife to press against your metal and hold it to the soldering board. Touch the solder to the metal prong.
