How to clean solder tip. Then immediately re-tin the tip with rosin core solder. Then slide the retaining nut over the tip and sleeve and tighten it using your hands. This should lead to a clean shiny tip ready for use.
Wipe OFF the solder on the Cleaning Sponge or Copper Wool. Switch on the Soldering Station or the Iron and Make sure it is Hot Enough. Another last resort is to gently rub the oxides off with an emery cloth or soft steel brush.
Then dip into the tin of tinner cleaner with a slight twisting action. Wring it out thoroughly after saturating with Deionized DI water. Some solder will respond to one method better over the other.
With the iron tip cold use a polishing bar. For it turn on the soldering pump at first. To apply the tip cleaner first heat the soldering iron.
This step will coat the iron in a mixture of flux and solder. Wire wool has the advantage of not cooling down the soldering iron too. If your soldering tip becomes detinned oxidized it can be restored in a number of ways.
Once your iron is heated up for a job wipe it on a wet sponge to remove old solder and apply solder to the tip. This is because as the soldering iron expands and contracts quickly. If the tip is hot enough normally at least 300C and relatively free of rust the solder will flow up the tip and coat it.
